We are seeking a highly motivated individual to take on a multifaceted operational role within our Fauna and Flora Management Company. The position embraces a number of fields within the ecology industry with a strong working relationship alongside infrastructure projects associated with private and government sectors.Candidates with previous ecological and vegetation management experience will be well suited to this role. The greater context of the role will be flora specific, however fauna roles alongside existing senior staff will figure.

 Required competencies include:

  • Passion for wildlife and natural systems;
  • A Bachelor of Science or equivalent, or relevant experience and knowledge of flora and fauna species across a number of groups that would enable you to competently fulfil the role;
  • Competency with the use of dichotomous keys and the identification of flora and fauna to species level;
  • Familiarity with the ecology of the Koala with previous field experience or captive management;
  • Solid report writing skills ideally with experience preparing documents such as Vegetation Management Plans including specific EVNT Flora Species and Weed Management Plans, Fauna Management Plans including specific EVNT Fauna Species and Koala Management Plans;
  • Demonstrated wildlife handling skills;
  • Able to work away from home for periods of time where required;
  • Ability to incorporate a safety management system into all aspects of work;
  • Able to provide effective leadership and management of staff as well as working coherently with other senior staff members;
  • Solid time management skills and a dependable, honesty driven work ethic;
  • Must have a committed outlook to a long term role.

Preferred competencies include:

  • Experience in the procurement of new contracts and the ability to source new projects via a number of avenues;
  • Certification in the handling of venomous snakes;
  • Previous experience around heavy machinery preferred;
  • Being already based in South East Queensland will be an advantage but will consider all applications within Queensland.
